Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

Disney's new movie Frozen is quite possible one of the cutest movies ever! The princesses are strong and independent. Olaf the snowman is an amazing character, and stole my heart from the moment I saw the first teaser for the movie. He is such a cheeky little guy!

My first order for a Frozen cake was, of course, with Elsa on it. I made this cake a while back, before I had actually watched the movie. I knew I had to include snowflakes and sparkle, that was pretty much all I got, based on googling images!

Once I had seen the movie, there was no way I wasn't going to make Olaf in cake. The next order I had, I practically insisted that I make Olaf rather than the princesses! I didn't need to do much convincing though... Really, who can say no to such an adorable creature!?

I really wanted to take a picture of myself holding his head, like in the movie, but hubby was too busy working on the next cake, so I had to settle for a selfie :D He turned out much bigger than I had initially planned! Oh well, it's a happy mistake!

Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time, there were three lovely lady friends who all got pregnant around the same time. Nine beautiful months later, the three friends gave birth to a wonderful trio of February babies, who are destined to be the bestest of friends! And for their first birthday, I got to make them a cake topped with three figurines, one for each of their favourite things. One was Paddington bear, the other a somewhat bizarre rectangular own, and the third, a doll the little girl likes. At first I thought it might be a bit random, but they looked wonderful together! (Don't judge me on my terrible photography skills, I know these were terrible!)

The real pleasure though was seeing the kids digging into the cake and looking beyond happy in their first introduction to chocolate overload!

Cake Critters

I love that my caking business grows along with my clients. This little one's first birthday cake was one of my first big cakes ever, and I've been making all her cakes for the past four years! How time flies!

This year, they did something extra special, and had a wonderful animator from Educazoo bring a whole lot of critters to the party. There was a rabbit, a few little rodents, some ooey gooey reptiles, and a snake! All the children, and even a few of the big kids, got to interact with the animals. The star of the show was a ferret who did tricks, and even danced a little :) He was also the star of my cake! The ferret was made out of rice crispy treats, and the rest of the critters were made of sugar. Apparently kids love devouring sugar critters! ;)

Here's birthday girl and her sister, along with the animator, trying to capture a shot of cake ferret with the real ferret... Ferrets don't really stand still for pictures :p

Cake Makes You Fat

Well then, no cake for you, Grumpy Cat!

This cake makes me chuckle every time. This poor misunderstood kitty is really just a big fuzzy ball of cuteness! Hands down, my favourite meme, and one of the most fun cakes to make. I love painting, and this little guy is entirely hand painted using food colouring on a fondant canvas.

The lovely birthday girl was such a doll, and let me share these amazing pictures. Her reaction is priceless!

My cake also got attacked by the phone paparazzi!

Cakes Are a Girl's Best Friend

I wasn't given too much to go on for this cake, nor was I given much time! A really sweet guy contacted me the night before his wife's birthday party, and wanted to get her a cake. He was just so determined to make this night extra special for her, I couldn't refuse!  He described her as classy, dainty, and modern. She likes leopard print, and loves black. This is what I came up with based on his description. A little bit of bling, some leopard print, a delicate flower, and a touch of black. She's a beauty!

Globetrotter

This cake makes me so very envious. It was for an 80 year old man who has been to ALL the places marked by the thumbtacks. Seriously though. There were close to thirty thumbtacks. If I will have travelled this much in my lifetime, I'd be beyond happy. This is absolutely amazing! And he's not done either. His next destination, Hong Kong, is marked with a little flag. The adventure continues!

Playing Favourites

My cakes are all my babies. Each and every single one of them. Any good parent knows not to play favourites, and yet, apparently so many do so anyways. I usually have a new favourite every few weeks, but this one has been one that I've fallen hopelessly in love with! The cake features some really pretty details; gumpaste roses, a hand painted floral pattern, some vintage photo frames, and old parisian postcards. It's chic, it's vintage, it's parisian, it's irresistible! What's more, my vintage teapot and teacup got to make a special appearance :)

The World is an Open Book

That's it. Summer is officially over. It's back to school, the weather is starting to get cooler, and I guess there's isn't much else to do but curl up and go into hibernation. No more sun, no more heat, and worst of all, no more vacation!

Nothing says summer like vacation time and that means travel! Travel themed cakes are always popular in the summer months. One of my favourite cakes from a few weeks ago was one for a guy who loves to travel, and never stops learning. His girlfriend designed the cake, and she had big ideas! She wanted an open book with a globe on top. And on top of that globe, an airplane, and a figurine of her boyfriend. Sounds crazy right!? But I was obviously up for the challenge. I had so much fun making this one, so many fun shapes to carve :)

The figurine is made of gumpaste, the airplane out of rice crispy treats, and the book and globe were chocolate orange cake – one of my new favourites!

Prehistoric Hammers

Sports themed cakes are always the number one go-to for guys' birthday cakes. Or maybe I just know a lot of sporty people? Whatever it is, I've made so many soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, jerseys, you name it! They can get a bit repetitive after a while, but the fun part is always the team logo. And there's almost always a really fun team logo. But my question is, where do these logos come from!? I've replicated logos with babies, animals, and now, with what look like two prehistoric hammers...

This yummy hockey jersey was a chocolate cake with mascarpone filling. Soooo good!

Galinha Pintadinha

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm about to introduce you to the cutest foreign cartoon ever! It's Brazilian, it's in portuguese, its so insanely adorable, and it's almost hypnotizing!

No wonder it's so darn loved by the kiddos over there, right!? Apparently it's a very popular birthday party theme as well.  Now if that video wasn't adorable enough, here is it in cake for a little girl's first birthday!

Wait, wait, there's more! Matching cupcakes, of course!

The party mama also sent me this picture of their setup. Is she talented, or what!? I love seeing creative sweet tables like these, especially when my cakes are right in the middle of all this deliciousness!

Drumroll, Please

Happy Canada Day lovelies! Summer has officially taken over, and it's been really difficult to find time to blog. I thought this would be the perfect cake to get me back in the rhythm of things! ...
Ba dum tsss! Haha, lame, I know! I try...

A few weeks ago, I was asked to reproduce a snare drum in cake for Michael's 17th birthday, topped with two drumsticks. What guy wouldn't love this cake!? I know it's July, but while making this cake, I couldn't help but sing Little Drummer Boy the entire time. Pa rum pam pam pam! I hope I got it stuck in your heads too now ;) Enjoy!

Delicious Colours

I'm obsessed with coral. (After periwinkle, of course!) Anything I buy lately is coral. Nail polish, clothes, even my toothbrush is coral! If it's any shade of pink, orange, and anything in between, I have to have it. It's time I seek professional help... Needless to say, I'm dying for someone to order a coral cake... hint hint! Unfortunately, it hasn't happened just yet, but I have been able to play around with my next color obsession - teal/turquoise/seafoam. Pair it with coral, and you've got a winning combination!

How amazing is this coral and seafoam combination!?
A couple of months ago, I was asked to pair Tiffany blue and gray in some mini treats, which was an amazing combo! This time, I was asked to pair turquoise with gold, along with a bold contrasting colour. Keep these beautiful colour trends coming lovelies!

Touchdown!

One of my latest cakes was for a super sports fan's birthday. His girlfriend had gotten him a Marques Colston New Orleans Saints jersey for his birthday, and wanted a cake to go along with the present. So for the topper, I made the football player as a sugar figurine. Around the four sides of the cake, she asked me to include other teams he's a fan of. Detroit Red Wings in hockey, Detroit Tigers in baseball, New York Knicks in basketball, and of course the Saints right in the front.
