Ivory and Gold

I'm sorry! I have probably been the worst blogger to ever exist. It's been forever since my last post, and it's not for lack of cakes to write about! I have been caking non stop, and it's been wonderful! A whole lot of big things are happening this year, it's all so very exciting! I took part in my very first bridal show in January (pictures to come), my new website is up (www.winkle.ca) and a whole lot more exciting stuff to follow! But first, here are a few pictures from my last two weddings of 2013.

The first is from a wedding that was held at the beautiful Windsor. Such an elegant location required an equally elegant cake! The bride wanted to surprise her hubby to be with a soccer ball somehow incorporated into the cake. The bottom tier was also inspired by her wedding dress. I'm loving the ruffle rose, and the trend hasn't died down just yet! I still have two more for 2014 weddings with ruffle roses! So pretty!

So, I had to beautify a soccer ball, include inspirations from the bride's dress, and make the sure the whole thing wasn't a hot mess, and would fit into the elegant setting of Le Windsor. Challenge accepted!

My last wedding of 2013 was a December wedding held at Auberge St-Gabriel. I was asked to create a vintage lace inspired sweet table, filled with cookies, macarons, cupcakes, and at the centre of it all, another ivory and gold cake. We brought in a ton of props, from candle sticks, jewelry boxes, and even little perfume bottles to tie it all together!

Cakes Are a Girl's Best Friend

I wasn't given too much to go on for this cake, nor was I given much time! A really sweet guy contacted me the night before his wife's birthday party, and wanted to get her a cake. He was just so determined to make this night extra special for her, I couldn't refuse!  He described her as classy, dainty, and modern. She likes leopard print, and loves black. This is what I came up with based on his description. A little bit of bling, some leopard print, a delicate flower, and a touch of black. She's a beauty!

Playing Favourites

My cakes are all my babies. Each and every single one of them. Any good parent knows not to play favourites, and yet, apparently so many do so anyways. I usually have a new favourite every few weeks, but this one has been one that I've fallen hopelessly in love with! The cake features some really pretty details; gumpaste roses, a hand painted floral pattern, some vintage photo frames, and old parisian postcards. It's chic, it's vintage, it's parisian, it's irresistible! What's more, my vintage teapot and teacup got to make a special appearance :)

Delicious Colours

I'm obsessed with coral. (After periwinkle, of course!) Anything I buy lately is coral. Nail polish, clothes, even my toothbrush is coral! If it's any shade of pink, orange, and anything in between, I have to have it. It's time I seek professional help... Needless to say, I'm dying for someone to order a coral cake... hint hint! Unfortunately, it hasn't happened just yet, but I have been able to play around with my next color obsession - teal/turquoise/seafoam. Pair it with coral, and you've got a winning combination!

How amazing is this coral and seafoam combination!?
A couple of months ago, I was asked to pair Tiffany blue and gray in some mini treats, which was an amazing combo! This time, I was asked to pair turquoise with gold, along with a bold contrasting colour. Keep these beautiful colour trends coming lovelies!

Bold and Gold

I made this cake a few weeks ago for a woman's 50th birthday. I was given a color swatch for her outfit for the night and was asked to match it. Since the color was so bold, I decided to keep the rest of the decor fairly simple, topped off with a golden flower!

The Midas Touch

Over the holidays, I was asked to make something a little different for a party. Instead of the usual cake, I decided to make some handmade chocolate truffles. They were such a hit, and a true labour of love!

I had made six different flavours. White chocolate lemon, white chocolate cranberry, milk chocolate caramel, milk chocolate hazelnut, dark chocolate raspberry, and a simple dark chocolate.

Drooling yet? Wait for the picture!

Oh, and each and every single one of the truffles got a little touch 24K gold, just because! Tell me, what girl doest want chocolate and gold, all in one bite!?

Golden Delicious

Last week I got asked to make a Sri Lankan themed 50th birthday cake. They wanted me to incorporate some festive colours, roses, gold jewelry, and a woman dressed in a sari while drinking tea. So many elements, I wasn't sure how to make it all work! Here's what I came up with in the end.

I've started making my own moulds recently, which is so very exciting! It allowed me to make some of these super intricate fondant jewels. I love them!

Once a Princess...

Always a princess! No matter the age, girls will always love tiaras and pink! This pretty little cake, all decked out in bling, is just so perfect for any princess. This was my first sugar tiara, what do you lovelies think?
