Birthday Boy's Life in Social Media

My little brother turned 18 last week, and my sister-in-law and I had such a hard time figuring out what to do with his cake. Girls are super simple! A bit of zebra print, a bow, and some pink, and you're set! It was definitely more difficult to pick something that an 18 year old guy would enjoy.

I honestly don't know how to describe this, so I'll just go ahead and put some pictures up. :)

The cake is covered in edible images of pictures of my brother or pictures taken by him. I also painted on a bunch of his Facebook statuses, which are usually lyrics from some of his favorite songs.

You on a DIIIEEET!

no eating here tonight WOO
no eating here tonight
NO NO NO EATING HERE TONIGHT, YOU ON A DIIIEEET.

For those of you that think I'm crazy:

Finding Nemo is such an amazing movie! When I was told that a beautiful little girl's newest obsession was Nemo, Dory, and Ellen (or maybe that was her mommy), I was thrilled! I mean, I only went to look for the DVD immediately, and watched it once... or twice... Haha! Love, this movie, and love, love, love how the cake turned out!

The corals are super simple, but add such dimension and are a great touch to this underwater yumminess :)

Opposites Attract

A few months ago, I was introduced to a bride-to-be with quite the personality. First off, she was having a dessert wedding, which is pretty amazing to begin with. To add to her assortment of yummy treats, she wanted a cake that would be as fun as them! She wanted to show off how different they were with some figurines. The bride was the teeny tiniest little lady, with beautiful long hair. Her fiancĂ© was super tall, with a shaved head. Here they are, in sugar!

I don't have any proper pictures of it, but the bride is actually grabbing hubby's bum! Told you she had character! The bride also sent me a detailed video of her dress, so I was able to go all out on all the lacy details!

As a little special surprise for her husband, she also wanted to include his newest toy, his car! Now what man doesn't want to eat his 1981 Monte Carlo?

When I grow up...

I want to be a VET! Every little girl's dream, no? That, and marine biologist, superstar, princess, fashion designer, etc. I'll let you fill in the blanks. I think I've wanted to be each one of those, at least once, throughout my childhood. And by childhood, I mean to this day ;)  Before pastry school, I had been dead set on getting into vet school. An undergrad later, and after a few too many rejections, I had given up on that one. Most of us do. Vet school is tough to get into, and even tougher to get through.

So, when one of my dearest girlfriends finally made her way through those grueling interviews and packed her bags for the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, I had to make an extra special cake for her farewell party!

Here she is, in her vet gear, with her beautiful pooch!

I'm so proud of my girlie! Keep at it, I know you can do it! <3 you!

The Very Pink of Perfection

Mehndi or henna parties are just one of the many -- and probably my favorite -- rituals that make up an Indian wedding. A few days before the wedding, the bride and her family get together and throw a party for when she and her bridal party get their henna done. I used to love henna art and had learned how to pipe it when I was younger. I had been itching to incorporate the intricate motifs into some cake art, and was thrilled when I got an order for a Mehndi party/bridal shower!

My guidelines for this cake were to incorporate henna designs into a modern and girly girl cake. So, here's what I came up with, the perfect blend of tradition and plenty of PINK!

The cake is a deep red velvet with ivory cream cheese frosting to keep the theme inside out!

Chocolate Cup O' Coffee

What could be better than a smooth cup of coffee? A smooth coffee ice cream in a decadent dark chocolate cup!

These tea cups, detailed with beautiful golden designs, are filled with coffee ice cream, and topped with a foamy sabayon.

They are also accompanied by dark chocolate spoons and dark chocolate ganache 'sugar cubes'.

I made these for my amazing sister-in-law's birthday! <3
