Sexy Classy

This weekend, I was asked to make a simple cake for a fortieth birthday. The cake was inspired by the Agent Provocateur logo and packaging. The idea was to combine classy with sexy, as well as imitate the font from the logo. The challenge in this cake? Completely gluten free and lactose free. I've done lactose free before, but I was completely new to the world of gluten free. A daunting task, but I was up for the experimentation. After a couple of attempts, I think I came up with something just as yummy as my regular chocolate-raspberry cake!

Go Bananas!

This is the perfect cake for me to blog about today. I just came back from an amazing week in the sun, and I'm fighting some terrible winter blues! This was a cake I made right before leaving on my trip for an adorable little birthday girl who loves monkeys and bananas. Put 'em together, and you've got this super cute combination!

Lately, I've been asked to make the inside of the cake as fun as the outside. Whether it's rainbow or obmre, it's super fun to cut into a cake to find a surprise. This time, I was asked to make something I had never done before - checkerboard! I had no idea how it was going to turn out until right up to the cutting, so that made me super nervous. In the end, it looked better than I hoped!

Troll in the Dungeon!

A few weeks ago, I was asked to reproduce a scene from Harry Potter in cake. For those muggles that haven't figured out which scene from the picture, it's this one:

Apparently this is birthday girl's favourite scene, and she's a huge HP fan. And so, I was asked to make the troll and Hermione in the bathroom. This girl is a very cool six year old, I think we'd get along very well! ;) I had a ton of fun making this cake, and of course, watching the entire movie for research purposes! The sides of the cake were brick walls, complete with sinks and bathroom stalls. For toppers, a face off between tiny Hermione and a giant, dimwitted troll.

The colours are bit funky in the next couple of pictures, no clue why...
