A Pretty Cake for a Pretty Lady

It was my sister-in-law's birthday last week, which meant it was time to whip up something special! After much humming and hawing, I decided to make something that included her most recent shoe purchase -- a pair of gorgeous Valentinos. Since a sugar shoe figurine was something I had done one too many times already, I thought I'd make a cake with elements from the shoe rather than the shoe itself. These are her hot hot beauties,

and here's how I replicated it on the sides of her cake. I used some hand-cut fondant, with the edges piped in royal icing.

My sister-in-law also recently got some very sexy business cards. So, I decided to use the pattern from them for the top tier of the cake.

Et voila! A pretty cake for a pretty lady!

Cake Cod

Last week I was asked to make a Cape Cod themed cake for someone turning 26. After tossing around a few ideas, the client asked to make a lobster lying in the sand. But it doesn't stop there. Mr. Lobster was to be smoking a cigar, wearing a party hat, and holding a bottle of Oban scotch! I must say, this was quite the creative and adorable idea!

Partay!

Check out his shmexy silhouette! Yum!

And finally, his cute tush! :)

A TARDIS Cake

A few weeks ago, I was asked to replicate the TARDIS in cake. It's basically a police box from the longest running British sci-fi series, Dr. Who. I don't know much about the show, so I had to rely quite a bit on pictures. The police box needed quite a few precise measurements, and lots of patience, to get all the lines perfectly straight. I was also asked to make a couple of daleks stationed outside the door. They were made up of some very oddly shaped gadgets and buttons. Finally, the doctor is peeping out the door, holding a Sonic Screwdriver.
