I've had my share of old school doll cakes when growing up. My mom and aunts were all pretty talented when it came to cake decorating. My siblings, cousins and I all grew up with some pretty fancy birthday cakes. The doll cakes were obviously very popular in the 80's and 90's. Check these beauties out!
So when asked to make a doll cake of my own, I was absolutely ready... to make it completely different! My guidelines were to make it pink, sparkling, and girly. No problemo!
Instead of the usual ball gown cake, I thought I'd dress Barbie in a more slim, flowy dress. Since there are only about 3 servings in her actual dress, I had her on top of a round cake that was also blinged up.
The bottom cake is a pink ombre cake, made with different shades of pink cake!
